If you know anything about me, you know that I love numbers AND words! By “trade” I am an accountant. I serve on staff at ClearView Baptist Church as the Church’s Financial Officer. I spend much of my work time with numbers. But, I also must use lots of words. The older I get, the more I understand how important it is to “explain” numbers with words. I enjoy writing – always have – but I am very picky about writing exactly the words I mean. (One reason I am not sure about blogging – it will take me forever to say exactly what I am thinking!)
After our workout today, we were measured for the sole purpose of measuring again in December and being able to celebrate some change in our body shape. Certainly there are many factors that will prove we are healthier by exercising and changing our eating habits. But measuring (with numbers) seems to be the easiest to understand. So, we measure.
You know the drill…we weigh ourselves; we take multiple tests to evaluate our health, like blood sugar level, body fat composition, levels of cholesterol; we count calories. And that’s just our health. Our financial health is the same – we use numerical dollars to give value to goods and services; we look to Wall Street numbers to set the mood for our investments, our economy. My children are graded at school – more numbers. What is the GPA, the ACT score, the number of credits to finish school…well, you get the picture. We want to measure everything and we need numbers to do that.
In my office yesterday, someone said, “oh. She’s counting.” To which my assistant replied, “It’s what we do.” And it is. And you do it, too.
Today, I was measured. Some of the numbers were not pretty. In eight weeks, I will be measured again.
Here’s knowing God is Faithful, and the numbers will improve.

I miss you too girl !! I appreciate your offer to "help" ... I think I need Carter's help. Else just a better understanding of why the heck my neck/right shoulder don't like some of our more important work. Yuck. I'll get a massage tonight, but I'm more concerned about this happening every week - about two days after intense works (pressing weight up seems to be an issue; and facing down/pushing forward). We'll get there ... I just feel like the lamest weak link on the Team right now. This morning I was going to come and give it a shot, but had a flat tire. Oh boy! That's resolved. Praise God, the guys at Ultimate Tire in Nashville ROCK !! They took an expired $15 off coupon and the patch (with rotation) cost me less than $6 so was worth the drive into Nashville (I wanted to give them business). Whoo Hooo Bobby Armstrong @ Ultimate! see ya soon sweet lady.
hey girl!
you have given me an entirely new view of numbers! i'm more of a picture gal and never though about how much numbers are a part of our lives. the ones we are getting from the healthquest are eye-opening and inspirational to me. they are helping me to stay focused on why i'm here. i am so glad that we are in this together, my new friend!!!
hugs,
julie

My dear dear Alisa! Yes we do all do counting and numbers.....how many pages have I completed? How many MORE albums and pages do I need? YEAH! Numbers are GREAT and YOU are GREAT! Your numbers are who you are, who God made. Everything in life happens for a reason and God guides us all to where He wants us to be. Continue to be faithful in knowing His plan will work!
Love you bunches and miss you!
